A film that follows three women from 2016-2023, exploring their struggles with dreams, love, and ambition.

China has developed at record speed, becoming one of the world’s most modern countries. The film “MY FIVE-YEAR PLAN” follows three young, unmarried women between 2016 and 2023. Amber, Jingya, and Tingting, in different ways, struggle to follow their dreams, their loves, and their ambitions. The Chinese state on the other hand displays increasing worries about falling nativity. At the same time, the Chinese traditional family values are strengthened, challenging young women all over China on how to deal with this dilemma. During the course of the filming, two of them end up in Europe, looking for a different life. But can Europe really fulfill their dreams?

The film premiered at Göteborg Filmfestival in an sold out cinema theater, the 26/1. It was a fantastic premiere.
A young Chinese woman in the audience expressed how much the film meant to her. Later she wrote these words at Rednote (the Chinese “Instagram”): “During the audience interaction session, I expressed my gratitude in Swedish. For me, who is also an only child living far away from here, watching this movie in Gothenburg this winter was magical enough. There are so many similarities and differences that I was immersed in the film for a long time, and it brought me great emotion, comfort, and encouragement. I always feel that if I don’t express something, I will regret it later. After the show, the director found me, hugged me, and thanked me, saying that my speech meant a lot to her. I said it meant the same to me. Amber, Jingy, and Tingting, I don’t know if you can see this post. Thank you, thank you for your real and vivid life, which allows me to meet you in this way and be inspired and moved by you”
